Is baldness more common today?
This is an interesting question. At first I almost scoffed and answering it. Why? Because it is generally understood that baldness has existed since the beginning of the human race.
In fact, as I’ve stated in another article, humans are the only species that experiences Male Pattern Baldness. Apes such as chimpanzees and gorillas also experience a form of Male Pattern Baldness.
It may go to reason that men today aren’t experiencing more baldness or that baldness is more common among men today than it has always been.
At first, I thought it seemed like more men are going bald today than in previous generations because of how easily we can access modern media today.
This comes in the form of course, of the internet and websites like this one, YouTube as well as other social media channels.
We are inundated with information.
However, the way that algorithms are designed on most media platforms, if we are interested in a topic, we’re more likely to look for that topic. Search engine algorithms are designed to track enquiries.
Therefore, they’ll often suggest more articles and videos related to the topics we search, even when we are not actively searching for a particular topic in our feeds.
As a result, it may seem like more and more men are going bald.
However, I have read recently that especially the younger generation of millennials, have been experiencing more and more cases of baldness.
In fact, not only men have been experiencing more baldness in this millennial generation, but women as well.
Is it in the food? Perhaps the drinking water? Maybe it’s all that plastic and all the plastic bottles that our food and water are contained in that is somehow leaking into our system?
The most logical answer I found was that the millennial generation today in the 21st century mainly in their 20s and 30s are under much more stress and pressure than previous generations.
Of course, stress does cause some forms of hair loss. Actually, if you are susceptible to Male Pattern Baldness, stress can speed up the process as well. So yes, for this reason, Male Pattern Baldness baldness in general may be more common today than it was in previous generations.
Can you inherit baldness from your mother?
You can inherit baldness from your mother’s side of the family. If you look at your uncles on your mother’s side of the family or your grandfather, you may find that there are a few baldies in your mother’s lineage.
Since we inherit genes and genetic code from both sides of our family, then it is possible to inherit baldness from your mother. Perhaps not directly, but through her lineage which is embedded in your DNA.
Is Male Pattern Baldness just a matter of genetics?
Most Male Pattern Baldness is a genetic condition. There are other forms of baldness that are not part of your DNA.
These other forms of baldness like Alopecia Areata are not necessarily inherited as a matter of genetics, but are linked to an autoimmune deficiency issue.
Now people can argue that auto immune deficiency issues can be genetic.
This would also be correct. I mean everything we are is a result of not only our environment, but from our genetics as well.
If we are more susceptible to balding because of our genetics then other conditions, like our environment can also make us more susceptible to issues like balding.
However, Male Pattern Baldness as we know, is purely a matter of genetics. Until scientists find a way to change our genetic code in our DNA itself.
To either take out this baldness gene or reverse it. Male Pattern Baldness will continue to be inherited from both sides of your family lineage.
What are some early balding signs?
Some of the first signs of balding can occur as early as puberty, especially late puberty.
However, many men who have Male Pattern Baldness begin noticing their baldness in their early 20s. style=”font-weight: 400;”> I know I did. However, the baldness gene may be triggered after the age of 30, 40 and beyond.
It’s all a matter of when your personal DNA decides to turn it on.
The early signs of balding can be noticing more hair in the drain of your sink. Perhaps in your shower drain after taking a shower.
You could also notice an overall thinning of the top of your scalp. Others notice it more with thinning at the crown area.
It’s interesting because the crown is actually at the top and back of your head, so you might not even notice it as easily as others at first.
In fact, many men who are thinning at the crown keep there frontal hairline almost fully intact.
Sometimes they go into their 50’s with a full frontal hairline, but with a bald crown.
However, most men who experience Male Pattern Baldness will either begin thinning at the crown or begin having a receding hairline.
I noticed my receding hairline in my early 20’s. Although, as it progressed my overall scalp also began to thin including my crown. Again, this all depends on your genetics.
Can you cure baldness?
As of the writing of this article, there is no cure for baldness. There are treatments as well as surgery that are available however.
These can include hair transplants, as well as topical treatments such as Propecia along with Minoxidil with and sometimes Retin-A is added to help with it absorption into the scalp.
Even though no cure for baldness has yet been found, hair transplant surgery has come along way.
Many hair transplant specialty clinics employed the FUE method, using single follicle strands to recreate a natural looking frontal hairline.
More drastic forms of hair transplant surgery can also include scalp reduction.
Unfortunately at this time there is no cure for baldness…Sorry guys….
Will baldness be cured by 2020?
Who can predict the future? Science could all the sudden stumble across a cure within the process of researching for treatments not only for baldness, but for other conditions unrelated to baldness. In fact, that’s how most of the current topical treatments had been discovered.
For example, Minoxidil was not discovered in the process of researching for a cure or treatment for baldness itself. Researchers discovered it was a side effect of blood pressure medication oddly enough.
Those who had taken a prescription for high blood pressure, which included Minoxidil as an active ingredient, experienced increases in hair growth in areas that were previously thin or bald. Researchers then continued to explore this and that was how Rogaine was created.
In addition, Propecia was originally a drug used to treat enlarged prostates. Those taking the active ingredient of finasteride, also experienced hair growth in otherwise thinning or bald areas of their scalp.
This encouraged the pharmaceutical company at the time to conduct further research into finasteride for potential baldness treatments. Thus Propecia was born.
Is baldness a disease?
Baldness is not a disease in the common definition of a disease. This is more of a condition than a disease. You cannot die from baldness.
Balding can be caused by quite a few different factors. However, Male Pattern Baldness is a genetic condition that we inherit through both sides of our family tree.
But, make no mistake, baldness is not a disease.
Can a dermatologist treat hair loss?
Yes, a dermatologist can treat hair loss. Of course, this depends on the cause of the hair loss. But most dermatologists can treat many types of hair loss.
However, you should also know that a dermatologist cannot cure hair loss. In some cases, they may not even be able to treat it. The best way for you to find out is to visit your dermatologist.
At the very least, your dermatologist may be able to give you a prescription depending on the cause of your hair loss.
What is best for hair loss?
Finally! My favourite question of all. The best thing to do for hair loss. Whether that hair loss is caused by Male Pattern Baldness or otherwise.
Unless of course, it is related to a serious medical condition, which you would need to see a qualified physician as soon as possible for more professional advice.
My advice, if you are experiencing Male Pattern Baldness is to just shave your head! Is Charles Barkley says, “Come home!”. Charles Barkley made a very famous video that went viral in the baldness community.
The video referred to NBA All-Star and one of the greatest NBA basketball players of all time, LeBron James, himself a multi-millionaire. Barkley urged LeBron to “Come home brother, come home!”
Shaving your head and accepting your baldness will give you such a rush of relief. You won’t believe it.
It’s like a huge heavy weight or burden has been magically lifted off your shoulders. In shaving your head, you will gain a new found confidence that you perhaps had never experienced before.
You won’t have to take those embarrassing trips to the barber or hairstylist. Stop feeling self conscious under a bright light or outside in the sunshine. No more worrying about your head is glowing.
No more snickering from others, especially guys with thick full heads of hair. Guys with thick heads of hair sometimes feel the need to boost their own confidence levels by standing next to guys with thinning hair.
By shaving your head you will have taken away their only advantage over you.
Like Superman who’s been relieved of kryptonite, by shaving your head you will eject the kryptonite that is causing your lack of confidence and insecurity.
Shave your head! It is the best way to treat baldness!
