Male body hair loss and unwanted hair growth.
As we get older it seems like we lose hair in areas where we want it to grow and grow hair in areas that we don’t. So where are these areas? Why does this body hair loss, this unwanted hair growth and this process of aging make us feel like we’re getting old faster than we feel and what can we do about it?
Eyebrows, nose and ear hair gets longer, coarser and thicker.
- Unwanted hair growth is usually found in the nose and ears mostly. We’ve all seen this.
- Those big and uncontrollable bushy eyebrows.
- Nose hair that can be mistaken for cat whiskers poking out of your nose, trying to say hello to anyone who walks by.
- Finally, the ears. Hair growth around the ears usually happens inside as well as outside on the lobes and even the outer helix parts of the ears.
The best way in my opinion to get rid of, or at least control, this excessive and unwanted hair growth is to use a simple trimmer.
There’s really no way to permanently eliminate this type of hair growth unless you seek out laser hair removal treatments from a licensed practitioner, usually a dermatologist.
Laser hair growth is the only real proven technique that kills the hair follicle, preventing its hairs from appearing.
However, contrary to popular belief, hair follicles are tougher to kill than we might think otherwise. Especially those of us who are experiencing hair loss.
That’s why it may take up to 5 sessions to totally and permanently eliminate the few hair follicles that are causing this unwanted hair to grow.
If you’re prepared to do this and of course spend the money, I would make an appointment to see a dermatologist who specializes in this type of hair removal.
Although, if you accept the fact that you’re going to grow hair in these areas as a part of the aging process, then you can control that growth with regular trimming.
You can use a body trimmer or a simple nose trimmer for trimming your ear hair. Many nose trimmers can double for trimming ear hair as well as eyebrow hair. They’re small, portable, handy and very affordable. Check out these below to see what I mean.
Now trimming your nose hair is quite easy as well as your eyebrow hair. For your nose hair, I’ve got a post here, “Nose hair removal. Rid yourself of nasty nose hairs now!” on how to take care of that more detail.
Yes, it’s as simple as that, just pick up a trimmer and keeping those hairs under control is probably not only your best option, but your safest and easiest option but your cheapest option as well.
Look at controlling unwanted hair growth as part of your grooming routine. Any grooming routine is key to aging gracefully.
Getting into the right habits will keep you as healthy, vibrant and youthful looking for as long as possible without resorting to sketchy, medical alternatives like plastic surgery for example.
Most of you already know the regular actions you should take to stay young and healthy. Things like eating healthy, regular exercise, no smoking, limited alcohol intake etc.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. You also have to incorporate a proper grooming and hygiene regimen in order to fully embrace ageing as gracefully as much as possible.
Uncontrolled eyebrow hair.
Your eyebrow hair is as simple as taking your fingers or a small toothbrush size brush and brushing it against the grain pushing up as high as possible.
There you will see all the longer strands of eyebrow hair that are causing you to look like Star Trek’s Vulcan, Mr. Spock or other Vulcans.
Simply shave off those excess longer hairs with the trimmer. Don’t push down directly on your eyebrows, put the tip of the trimmer to your skin and let the blades cut the higher hairs off.
Again, don’t put the trimmer directly on your eyebrows. Only trim those longer tips that are poking up nice and even.
That’s it really. When you’re finished, take that same little brush or your finger and brush your eyebrow hairs back down into shape. It takes just a couple minutes to do so.
You don’t need to do this everyday, but you should keep on top of it. Where they get a little longer and bushy, just do it again.
Unwanted ear hair.
Your ears are a bit trickier. Because not only do they grow from inside your ear but they also start growing around the earlobes as well as the outer helix edges of your ears.
Of course with any excess hair you can trim them down with a beard/nose trimmer.
Like I said, your ear hair is a little trickier and will require you to get yourself a 3 way mirror so you can have a good view of your entire ear. Ear hair is tricky because unlike nose and eyebrow hair, it’s not staring at you in the face when you look in the mirror.
We get a very limited view of our ears on a daily basis. It’s not usually till someone points it out to us that we realize we have an ear hair growth problem.
So the only actual way to see and keep on top of it on a regular basis is to get a 3-way mirror that you can either attach to your bathroom mirror or be portable.
Preferably a 3 way mirror that’s hands-free. Then simply take the trimmer and trim all the excess ear hairs. Make sure you check your ear lobes as well. Use the trimmer on your ears like you would with your nose hair.
Your ears and nose hair will grow back, but not as fast as you think. This is something that you might want to check over once a week or so depending on how fast they grow back.
Hair loss on the legs and chest.
If you’re a man and you’re used to having hairy legs and chest, you may notice as you age that the hair on both seems lighter and thinner. There’s a combination of a couple reasons why this happens.
First, many of them may be turning lighter and grey, so the hair is less noticeable.
Another reason is because of your body’s own natural aging process which is accompanied by lower amounts of testosterone in your system that comes with aging. What can you do about this?
I would see a doctor who may suggest a blood test to test your levels of testosterone and make recommendations based on that.
Levels may, of course, go back up if your doctor puts you on some kind of testosterone replacement therapy resulting in some of that chest and leg hair coming back as a result of a rebalancing of your body’s natural hormones.
Male body hair loss and unwanted hair growth, a final solution.
Dealing with aging and body hair loss as well as unwanted hair popping up in areas that you’re not used to seeing it pop up in, is a part of getting old unfortunately.
Despite modern science’s efforts to make us look younger, with superficial, half-baked solutions and cosmetic surgery, nothing has proven to turn back the hands of father time.
However, there are steps as I’ve gone over in this post that can help maybe slow down the process a bit. Though, the final solution to aging and body hair loss unwanted hair growth as well as growing old is to control the process.
This includes adopting a regular grooming routine and proper hygiene on a daily basis. Controlling unwanted hair especially can be very easy to do. It doesn’t take too much of your schedule or from your pocket.
Controlling your ageing and body hair loss is a bit more complicated and unfortunately requires possible testosterone supplementation.
Therefore, the final solution would be just to accept your body hair loss and unwanted hair growth as part of your aging process and at least keep those unwanted nose, ear and eyebrows hair trimmed and controlled. A fairly easy solution.
Accepting your body hair loss is a part of aging gracefully. Your ageing is nothing to be ashamed of. It is as part of the natural circle of life as birth and death.
Make the most of whatever you can control.
Embracing your aging is not the same as surrendering to age. Activities like vigorous exercise, eating right and living a healthy lifestyle as well as examining your own personal style and investing in well made classic clothing all play a role.
Keeping in shape, maintaining a healthy skin color as well as keeping your unwanted hair and controlled.
These are all the best ways of dealing with aging, including body hair loss and unwanted hair growth.
There’s no excuse to become that sad looking old man with the pot belly, a horseshoe haircut and out of control nose, ear and eyebrow hair.
We can fight the age fiercely and naturally without succumbing and surrendering to it. Own your age. Age gracefully my friends.
Life goes in one direction, so make the most of it. Wear your age and experience with pride and class. Become that silver fox you were meant to be.
