Do bald people use shampoo? Yes, but here’s why they shouldn’t.

Yes, bald people do use shampoo. However, here are 8 reasons why bald people should not use shampoo:

  1. Shampoo strips away the natural oils that keep your scalp healthy. When you strip away these oils, your scalp becomes dry and irritated.
  2. Shampoo can irritate your scalp, causing itchiness and flaking. If you have a sensitive scalp, shampoo can be particularly irritating.
  3. Shampoo can damage your hair follicles, leading to permanent hair loss. If you’re balding, you don’t need any help losing your hair!
  4. Shampoo can dry out your scalp, making it more susceptible to infection. A dry, flaky scalp is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungus.
  5. Shampoo can cause build-up on your scalp, leading to dandruff. Dandruff is caused by a buildup of dead skin cells and oily secretions. Shampoo can contribute to this buildup.
  6. Shampoo can clog your pores, leading to acne. Acne occurs when your pores become blocked with oil and dead skin cells. Shampoo can make this problem worse.
  7. Shampoo can contain harmful chemicals that can be absorbed into your bloodstream.
  8. Bald people just don’t need shampoo!

I must confess, that I too have used shampoo to wash my bald head on occasion. Although those occasions were only when I was short on my usual, high quality skin cleansers.

There’s nothing wrong with bald people using shampoo to wash their heads with when you’ve got nothing else, but shampoo is not ideal for the bald head.

Although shampoo does a great job of cleaning the hair even the scalp, shampoos normally have a lot of added ingredients that over time can build up on the scalp and not leave it as clean as a premium skin cleanser would.

You see, these ingredients normally are formulated to mostly protect and enhance the hair, they do clean the scalp as well, but let’s not forget that hair takes up quite a bit of scalp real estate, so the residues of shampoo left on the scalp are limited.

However, if you have a bald head, that shampoo is just going to build up only on your scalp.

Over time you may find that excess sebum, the scalp’s own natural moisturizer, and oil may get trapped in your pores.

You may also find that if you use shampoo too often to wash your bald head you will come out having that “shiny bald head look”, because shampoo doesn’t do a great job of removing excess sebum thoroughly.

Sebum is great when you have hair, because it’s a natural moisturizer, but if you have no hair it’s got no place to go. Therefore it builds up on the scalp and causes that “shiny, greasy bald head” look.

So if you like this “shiny bald head” look, keep using shampoo.

Otherwise switch to a high quality skin cleanser.

What does conditioner do to a bald scalp?

Although a conditioner is great if you have a full head of hair since it not only moisturizes and protects that hair, but can even help build the body of that hair as well as the shine.

However, a conditioner does nothing for your scalp. In fact, it will also coat your scalp and make it shiny, but for all the wrong reasons.

Since a bald scalp has no hair, those ingredients used to thicken strands of hair as well as making it shine can also make your scalp shine.

I’m sure most quality shampoos have excellent high quality ingredients. However, the ingredients used to moisturize and keep hair shiny are not the same ingredients I would use on my skin, especially a bald scalp. If you’re going to use a moisturizer, use a premium skin moisturizer.

If you’re like me and don’t like the greasy, shiny bald head look, then get yourself a matte moisturizing lotion. Some even come with an SPF to help protect your exposed bald head from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

Do bald people get dandruff? Yes, but don’t use dandruff shampoo.

Bald people do get dandruff, believe it or not. However, since you have no contrasting hair or hair color, dandruff on a bald head may be more difficult to detect.

The good news is, the mere act of shaving your head alone can help lower the chances of dandruff on your bald head quite drastically. You see, shaving is a natural exfoliator.

With every stroke of the razor, you’re exfoliating the dead skin cells off your scalp, along with the hair.

Even though bald people do get dandruff, it’s much, much less than people with hair. It’s also much easier to treat than those with hair. Here’s a post on how bald people can deal with dandruff, “Balding and dandruff, what can you do about it?

What does a bald man wash his head with instead of shampoo?

What's the easiest way to stay bald? The quick "easy" guide.

If a bald man is in a pinch and needs to wash his head, then a good soap or an all over body wash would be the next best thing.

Shampoo should be one of the last things a bald man should use when washing his bald head.

How often should you wash your bald head?

You should wash your bald head as often as you wash your face.

Don’t use shampoo and conditioner on your bald head, use this instead.

Only use premium cleansers on your bald head. Other than premium cleansers to regularly wash your bald head with, try some premium exfoliants once or twice a week for that extra deep cleansing.

If you want to make sure that your bald head is nice and smooth, while protected from the sun, then use a high quality premium moisturizer to top it off. A high quality moisturizer to a bald head is what conditioner is to hair.

If you don’t like the greasy, shiny bald look, then use a premium matte lotion.

Do bald people use shampoo? Yes, but now you know why they shouldn’t.

As you can see, although bald people do use shampoo, it’s not optimal.

In fact, if you can I would avoid using shampoo or conditioner, especially conditioner, on a bald head for reasons I went through above.

In order to keep a bald head smooth without looking all greasy, then your best bet would be to use a high-quality skin cleanser.

Then to keep your freshly shaved head moisturized, I’d top it off with a premium matte moisturizing lotion, preferably one that contains an SPF.

This way your head will not only look smooth, but it will keep your pores clean and your head moisturized and great to touch.
