Skinny and balding? Your journey starts here.
My life was over! I was young, thin, and balding–the worst combination for a man. Women don’t find bald men attractive, so I feel doomed to forever look at them from afar while sucking on my one remaining hair.
It’s not all bad though: some women actually like bald men and they will date them! That means I had a chance. I just needed to find THE ONE! But what if she doesn’t like bald men? It’s a catch-22.
But it doesn’t have to be.
In this post, I hope to help you jolt your life back on track, shave that head and get jacked!
Skinny and balding? Your first steps in dealing with it.
I’ve met a couple women in my life who don’t mind bald men and you’re so happy they exist. For the sake of brevity, let’s say there was one in particular who didn’t care about my thinning hair–she loved me even though I was almost completely bald.
It was truly beautiful, but then she was gone.
Life is cruel that way, but I was still trying to get over it. Since I felt I had few options. Who knows when I would find another…Woah was me…
Perhaps you used to have a full head of luxurious hair, but you soon discovered you were balding! All your life, people have commented on how cool your hair was and you liked the attention. You went in on all the latest and hippest hair styles. That was me.
It never occurred to me that I might one day go bald. It got to the point, though, after those years of stress over my thinning hair and all the teasing I had received from both men and women about my thinning hair. That once-thick mane of mine was going fast.
What causes hair loss for men?
Back when I first realized I were balding, the first thing my doctor told me was that it’s hereditary and nobody knows why. He said that there were medicines he could prescribe to stop my hair from falling out, but once it starts shedding, you can’t do anything about it. Great! That means every day I looked in the mirror and all I saw was a slowly shrinking bald spot. It was depressing.
If balding wasn’t bad enough, I was really skinny. What could I do?
Why was this happening to me? I was young and my life should’ve been full of adventures! Instead, I looked in the mirror and saw a man who had no hair and hardly any meat on his bones. No wonder people like using the word “balding” as an insult. I was literally hopeless!
Balding and skinny: maybe it would all work out.
The good news was, it did, but not until I took control over it and back over my life. But it wasn’t easy.
Can skinny guys look good bald?
One thing most conventional wisdom can agree on is that a bald guy is usually not as attractive as a guy with hair.
If you ask any woman if she would date a man who was thin and bald, the majority of them will say they prefer a man to have either some hair or none at all.
But is it possible for a young, thin guy to pull off the bald look? When it comes to being attractive, there are usually certain qualities that are associated with being “a guy”.
You should be fit and/or muscular, you should have youthful looking facial features, your skin should be clear, you shouldn’t have any acne scars or heavy wrinkles on your face . . . The list goes on.
But what happens when you take away that hair? Besides, one of the most important factors when it comes to being attractive is confidence.
So say you’re confident and comfortable with your baldness. Are you still going to be seen as attractive? Or are stylish haircuts the only way for a man to get people to view him as “sexy?” And if so, what are the best haircuts for thinning hair?
Here are some tips on looking your best despite thinning locks.
1) Find stylish haircuts that you think will work with your face shape and your overall style . . . not just something that will hide your baldness.
Don’t feel as though you have to settle for a cut that doesn’t fit your personality. Find something you think works and looks good on you.
2) Keep your skin as clear as possible. If you have pock marks or acne scars, then consider getting them removed with laser treatments or cosmetic surgery.
You can also try products like “Clearasil” or “Neutrogena” to give your face a more even skin tone.
3) Try to build yourself up as best you can through proper diet and resistance training. Hit the damn gym fella!
Make sure you’re getting enough protein, vegetables, fruits, calcium and iron in your body.
This will not only make you feel healthier, but it will also help restore some of your confidence back along with gaining some physical strength!
4) Try to avoid medications that have a negative effect on your hair growth. If you do think you might be taking certain types of medication, talk with your doctor about possible side effects it may have.
5) Try to find ways in which balding can work in your favor. Think of all the things you like about yourself and try not to focus on your thinning hair.
For example, what do you like about yourself physically? What are some of your best personality traits? Instead of dwelling on the negatives, try to find ways that balding can actually work for you.
6) Build up your self-esteem and confidence . . . even if that means going down a different path than most people.
You don’t have to go out and get a trendy hairstyle or try every new grooming fad in order to become more confident with yourself.
If you’re not happy with how you look, then there’s no changing that unless you change your mentality. And if it doesn’t bother you, then why should anyone else?
7) Remember that the best haircuts for men with thinning hair are the ones you think look hot. If you like your haircut, then it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of it.
It’s true that everyone has their own opinion, but if you’re confident about who you are and how you look, then nothing can change that.
Whether it’s an edgy undercut, a buzz cut or any other stylish hair trend out there, if you like it then that’s all that matters. Just skip the comb-overs, please!
8) Keep your cool when dealing with the haters. Don’t let what other people say about you get to you. If someone has something negative to say about how balding is affecting you, then it’s most likely because they’re projecting their own insecurities onto you.
If they can make fun of you, then they don’t have to worry about how they look and who they are as a person.
Remember that the only thing people like that can do is talk…or wear wigs! You’d be surprised at how many men still do!
9) Accept the cold hard truth about hair loss. If you’re thinning, then you need to not only accept that fact, you need to embrace and own it.
Why skinny guys can look better bald than fat guys.
When a skinny guy is losing his hair he can keep it short and still look great. On the other hand, if a fat man is trying to go bald most of what’s left on top will be hanging long.
This will accentuate his large physique and make him look even larger than he is.
It’s all about body proportions. When you’re skinny and balding, your head looks normal in proportion to your body.
A fat guy with hair loss will look like his neck is too big for the rest of him. If he goes full-bald that neck is going to be even bigger!
Skinny balding men are more likely to look handsome with or without hair. A fat man with hair loss is more likely to look “nerdy” regardless of what style he chooses.
Men, regardless of their age, can go full-bald and still attract the ladies if they have the right attitude about it. Skinny guys just have a better shot at being balding studs than fat guys.
Skinny and balding conclusions.
So if you’re a skinny man losing your hair and want to look great with or without hair, then you have a lot of options.
Balding is subjective and every man has their own unique road to travel. One thing we can all agree on is that being insecure about your head because you have thinning hair or are balding will not turn out well for anyone.
Male pattern baldness/thinning & confidence.
As much as we’d like to blame society and movies, the reality is men with thinning hair lack confidence. It’s a game of make believe.
This is not to say you should accept any style or any hair loss treatment, but don’t get hung up on vanity.
The haters will hate no matter what you do. If you have lost your hair then there’s nothing to gain by letting that bring you down.
Don’t fixate on it, don’t spend time obsessing over it and most importantly of all . . . don’t listen to what other people have to say about it.
So hit the gym, change up your diet and gain some muscle. Go out and retrofit your wardrobe, buy some new clothes, perhaps have them tailored to show off your gains.
Then shave your head. Wear your bald head high with pride and confidence. Always remember confidence is the key to everything.
