Shaving for grey hair FAQs.
There are some facts and misconceptions about shaving and grey hair. What shaving can do and what shaving can’t do for your grey hair.
For example, shaving your head will not get rid of the grey hair at least not from the root.
Of course shaving your head will get rid of the visible grey hair, since you will have no hair at all.
Does shaving increase grey hair in general?
Shaving does not increase grey hair in general.
Although if you are used to shaving on a regular basis and decide to either grow in your beard or if you’ve been shaving your head and decide to grow in your hair, you may find that you have a lot more greys than you remember.
That is normal because it’s very difficult to tell how much you are greying when you’re constantly shaving.
Does shaving reduce grey hair?
Shaving does not reduce grey hair, at the roots anyway.
Even though shaving your face or shaving your head will eliminate the visible grey hair, it will not eliminate or reduce the grey hair that’s growing behind it.
Does shaving remove white hair?
Shaving will remove white hair, but only the visible white hair either on your face or on your head.
However, it will not remove the white hair from the hair follicles which grow underneath your skin.
Does gray hair look good with a buzz cut?
Gray hair looks great with a buzz cut. In fact, gray hair looks much better on short buzz and short hair cuts, than it does on longer hair cuts.
For some reason gray hair on long hair kind of gives you the disheveled or the over the hill, eccentric hippie look.
However, gray hair on a buzz cut or short hair gives you the look of a refined and experienced gentleman.
It can also give you that hard experienced look of someone who spent the last 20 or 30 years in the military as well.
Needless to say buzz cut for gray hair will actually make you look a little younger than if you decide to grow it out.
Cutting off your hair to go grey. Show it off!
If you were greying and decided not to take the Grecian formula route or dye your hair dark, there’s no better way to show off your grey hair than by cutting off all that long hair.
Cutting off your hair to go grey will show your confidence and self assuredness as a mature older man.
Don’t believe me? Look how well George Clooney‘s done with grey hair or Sam Elliott.
Does grey hair mean balding?
Grey hair does not necessarily mean that you are balding.
However, as we age our hair does turn lighter, thinner, eventually greyer and white.
As the hair ages it thins and lightens. Grey hair also does not necessarily mean that you are balding.
Although you can grey and bald at the same time. Especially if you have male pattern baldness, going grey and balding seem to go hand in hand.
Does shaving your head increase grey hair?
Just as shaving your head cannot decrease the amount of grey hair you have, shaving your head also doesn’t increase the grey hair you have.
Shaving has no effect on the hair follicles that produce your grey hair or do not produce any hair at all.
Can you stop hair from greying?
You can’t stop your hair from greying unfortunately. There are no vitamins, tonics, special superfoods nor hacks that you can use to stop your hair from greying.
However, there are special colorings and dyes that you can use that will darken your hair. But I would recommend you not using them.
No dye or Grecian formula can really do a natural job of reversing the gray.
If you are really bent on reducing the grey though, you’re better off seeing a professional hairstylist who may highlight, color and darken parts of your hair to make it all blend in naturally.
The problem with Grecian Formulas and dyes is that they seem to darken a large amount of your hair and not just reduce individual grey hairs.
There are plenty of men who go this Grecian Formula route, some even let their temples gray a little bit and then they have large, swaths of dark hair, the same color they may have had when they were 18, but it does look a bit odd.
Also, don’t forget that your skin tone and texture also change as you age. So solid dark hair doesn’t really go well with aging skin. You’ll end up looking more like a very tired 27-year-old.
If you are after the very tired 27-year-old look, then have at it and Grecian formula your hair away. But my advice would be either to highlight your grey hair and show it off.
You can also see a professional hairstylist once a month and have them do a professional hair coloring job as well.
That way you’ll have the best chance of reducing the grey, yet still have it natural looking.
Shaving my head to go gray. Tired of fighting it.
If you don’t want to deal with Grecian Formulas or hair stylists.
If you want to simply stop fighting the gray, but not look like Father Christmas, you can simply shave your head completely bald.
That way you won’t have any gray hair or any hair at all to worry about. You can even tan that bald head of yours as well.
But if you’re looking to go gray and think that shaving your head will help stop it, then unfortunately it will not. Shaving your head will not make your gray go away any slower or faster.
So guys you do have your choices, shaving can’t be a tool to use for gray hair, but only as an appearance amplifier or de-emphasizer depending on how you go about it.
Regardless of what you do, just remember there’s a reason why the term “Silver Fox” has been popularized in modern society.
